A simple method used to diagnose underlying problems in your pet.
Blood tests can complement a veterinarian's physical examination, confirm a diagnosis, monitor the progression of a specific medical condition, or detect the onset of a new disease at an early stage.
With our on-site laboratory, we can provide most results within 30 minutes.
Not necessarily. If your pet doesn’t have a condition requiring close monitoring, annual blood tests are typically recommended for older animals, usually from around age 7 onward. Your veterinarian will decide if blood tests are appropriate.
A pre-operative blood test is recommended before any anesthesia. It allows us to assess the animal's overall condition and ensure there are no contraindications, such as potential blood coagulation disorders.
For dogs and cats, blood is generally drawn from a vein in the front paw or the jugular vein in the neck. Your veterinarian will advise if fasting is necessary, depending on the tests to be conducted. If the vein isn’t clearly visible, the area may need to be shaved. The area is disinfected, and a needle is gently inserted into the vein after light compression. Your pet may feel slight discomfort but no significant pain. A bandage is applied for a few minutes afterward to stop the bleeding.
If your pet is not cooperative or docile, sedation may be considered for the safety of both the animal and the staff.
